ADOPTEE ART THERAPY

Connect and make ART with other ADOPTEES!

Through art therapy, participants will explore weekly themes based on the 7 core issues of adoption (developed by Sharon Kaplan Roszia and Allison Davis Maxon) as it pertains to adoptees. Participants will build resilience, facilitate positive change, and enhance their ability to cope with vulnerabilities by exploring the adoptee experience using art.

Join Artist, Adoptee, Art Therapist, and Associate Marriage & Family Therapist Nicole Rademacher for this engaging Art Therapy Group for Adult Adoptees ONLY. 

No previous art-making experience is necessary. All abilities are welcome.

Materials needed: art-making supplies including but not limited to collage materials, colored pencils, makers, different-sized paper, oil pastels, charcoal, acrylic paint, watercolor...

Nicole Rademacher (she/her) is an artist (mainly working in video and community engagement), art therapist, and adoptee. The influence of her adoption and reunion (with her biological family) feature prominently in her studio practice where she explores concepts of intimacy, identity, and belonging. She held an artist residency at La Cité Nationale des Arts and has received an Artistic Community Engagement Grant from the Rema Hort Mann Foundation. Rademacher holds an MFA in Electronic Integrated Arts from Alfred University and a BFA in photography and video from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Additionally, Rademacher is an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist and Provisional Registered Art Therapist with an MA from Loyola Marymount University. She has collaborated and shown work widely both nationally & internationally including TEMPORAL at Centro de Arte Digital en Memoria de Juan Downey in Chile, End to End at Harvestworks in New York, LOOP Video Art Festival in Barcelona, Transmediale in Berlin, 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles International Airport, and, most recently, through the Illuminate LA initiative by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts & Culture.
